Personal Development Coaching

“Problems cannot be solved by thinking within the framework
in which the problems were created.”

—Albert Einstein

Coaching is all about you

Personal development can be a powerful, life-changing experience. No wonder so many motivational and self-help books are sold every year! Achieving change, however, requires patience, persistence, a positive attitude, and the absolute belief that you will ultimately be successful.

In the process of coaching, I help you move from the present into the future by accomplishing the goals you set for yourself. This “self-help,” self-awareness process indicates a shift from one place to another. Only you can make the shift, but I can help create a rich environment for this growth to occur.

Coaching is an investment in yourself

What are you putting up with right now? What’s bugging you, irritating you, or frustrating you, and what’s it costing you to tolerate these things? Most tolerations can be eliminated, but first they have to be identified. Through your personal vision of wants, needs, values, and goals, I focus directly on the challenge you're having and work with you to clarify and develop a strategy for your success, with less stress.

Your comfort zone...a great enemy!

Studies show your comfort zone can be a great enemy. After a while, that’s all you know! You justify, rationalize, and finally accept difficult financial situations, tense relationships, and unfulfilled dreams. One day you wake up to realize you’re spending a lot of negative energy on things that are not adding value to your life. It’s out of balance. What can you do?

Very often, the key to changing a negative situation lies first in changing yourself. Learning new skills, updating old ones, setting expectations that are more realistic, and re-examining previously held attitudes are all part of the evolutionary process. A coach can help you gain the insight you need in order to understand the path to your future.

Personal development coaching is for positive people who are
discontent with their current comfort zone and are looking to change

Who are my clients?

  • My clients are intelligent, able to think for themselves, and interested in a more advanced, effective, and productive state of being. Whether they arrive with an inability to do something they want to do or a desire to stop doing something they don’t want to do, my responsibility is to assist them in finding the answer.
  • My clients have the courage it takes to make the kinds of changes they know will improve their lives. Even with the unique gifts and talents we all bring to this world, there are often special issues that create fear, doubt, uncertainty, and needless worry, which block the path to growth. That’s why my client’s attitude is just as important as his or her desire for natural talents and abilities to develop. Click here for the Coachability Index.
  • My clients are able and willing to accept responsibility for change in their lives. This awareness is about seeing options, without necessarily feeling pressured to decide or to do anything. Clients step back far enough to see their own habits and patterns, and to construct new perspectives, see fresh options, and make better choices.
  • My clients know the value of sharing ideas with someone who understands them and is subjective enough to want a lot for them but objective enough not to be biased or self-serving. While the primary focus is creating significant positive change in their personal lives, they also understand that just talking about options with someone who can listen is often enough to have it all become very clear.
  • My clients come to me with everything from sensing that relationships are not authentic to seeking stress relief, setting goals, strategic planning, and overcoming negative habits. Some want to upgrade their personal effectiveness; others seek developing better self-care, and many simply want to stop procrastinating. I understand and am respectful of each client as an individual, with his or her own unique needs and desires. That's why coaching without boundaries is so important.

How my personal development techniques can help you

Listen I listen. When was the last time someone really listened to you, listened completely and so perfectly that you felt heard and also began seeing a solution or opportunity so clearly you wondered why it hadn’t happened before? When you speak, I listen. When I listen, I hear you. I’m agenda-free and also trained to listen to the things that often aren’t spoken, which allows me to identify and understand your own unique situation.
Question I question. Why should we limit ourselves to getting better in the things we’re doing? If things go unexpectedly badly, what can we do to overcome them now and prevent them from happening again? Effective questions open the door to knowledge and understanding, which is an imperative part of the coaching process. That’s why all my coaching questions have one intention—to help you navigate through labyrinthine possibilities to get to specific answers, answers that you have to your own dilemmas, problems, situations, and challenges.
Motivate I motivate. Life being what it is, everyone needs help staying focused and motivated. I understand that my clients are up to great things, so encouraging them with an occasional pep talk, to inspire them is an all-important coaching ingredient in my practice. Therefore, I'll focus on your natural strengths, very often the ones you may take for granted, and we'll develop them further.
Strategize I strategize. Strategizing is an important part of my coaching technique. The best strategy is the one that helps you bridge a gap—from where you are, here and now, to where you want to be. In fact, the foundation for this approach is the structural basis that supports an exceptional life. Strategizing may include priorities you set for yourself, their visualization, goal-setting to achieve them, and the charting of progress.
Challenge I challenge you. There is no failure around a coaching challenge. Look at it as a supportive push that entices you to explore, question, or validate established beliefs in a relatively risk-free and safe environment. Knowing this support is available can help you regain control over your life and feel better about yourself.

Is my coaching formulaic?

You are a uniquely qualified individual and different from every other person on the planet. Accordingly, my personal development coaching does not follow a prescribed or formulaic process because I recognize that people’s needs and circumstances vary, and timing is very unpredictable. This is what I often refer to as “Coaching Without Boundaries.” In fact, recognizing different needs is an essential part of what coaching is all about.

In order to share information, draw distinctions, offer perspective, and provide structure, I bring many available resources to the coaching process, depending upon your personal needs and circumstances. These concepts, processes, procedures, principles, and/or assessments are drawn from a wide field of behavioral sciences, business management, leadership, the arts, and humanities. They are designed to help promote self-awareness, evoke discovery, offer insight, foster shifts in perspective, and energize the creative process. Click here for my résumé page.
